The Taritib and Ijma is an indigenous set of rules and regulations with corresponding procedure and sanctions promulgated by traditional authorities before the coming of Islam and Spaniards. It covers political, social and economic life of the Maranao tribe. The System of Governance ruled by the Sultans and other traditional title holders was very strong and systematic. Most of the conflict arises during their time were settled by the Sultan and his subordinates. The people obeyed the law and their existences were guided with good principles and virtues like “kanggiginawae” giving emphasis on the importance of Friendship, “Kapamagogopa” helping one another which lead to a peaceful community. Today, one of the most effective tools for conflict resolution is clan based peace organizing and using the genealogies as one way to know the blood relation of the offending parties.
